Overview
Registered in 2011 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Cowboy Up' is a small, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its very shiny, broadly ovate leaves with medium green margins and a lightly cupped, flat form. The plant reaches a diameter of 19 inches (48.3 cm) and a height of 30 inches (76.2 cm), with upright foliage that produces 8 pairs of leaf veins.
In the Garden
This compact hosta is well-suited for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or container plantings, where its glossy foliage provides textural contrast. Mature plants spread to roughly 19 inches across and 30 inches tall, with scapes rising 20 to 22 inches (50.8 to 55.9 cm) above the foliage. It pairs effectively with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its variegated leaves.
Care Notes
Grow in moist, well-drained soil in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones. Water regularly during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed.
