Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Country Dreaming' is a large, vase-shaped cultivar notable for its intensely dark blue-green foliage and heavy glaucous bloom that persists late into the growing season. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 10.8 inches long by 8.5 inches wide, are moderately to deeply wavy, lightly twisted and folded, and moderately corrugated, with 12 to 13 vein pairs and a cordate base.
In the Garden
'Country Dreaming' forms an upright clump 22 inches tall and 40 inches in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom is best preserved. The intensely blue-green scapes, reaching 24 to 28 inches, carry pale lavender flowers in midsummer. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and shade-tolerant grasses; the large size suits it as a specimen or in mixed borders.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though monitoring is advisable in damp conditions.
