Overview
Registered in 2008, *Hosta* 'Cosmic Kid' originated from a cross between *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Cosmic Hippie' (pollen parent). This large cultivar is visually distinctive for its nearly round, dark green leaves with white streaking and slightly rippled margins, forming a dense, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
'Cosmic Kid' reaches a mature spread of 34 inches (86.4 cm) and a height of 21 inches (53.3 cm), with scapes rising 26 to 32 inches (66.0 to 81.3 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its moderate growth rate makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. The large, rounded leaves provide textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Cosmic Kid' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
