Overview
Registered in 2012, 'Cosmic DNA' is a large hosta cultivar derived from a cross between *H.* 'Ma Breeder' and *H.* 'Blue Belly'. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, deeply corrugated blue-green leaves with pale yellow streaking along the margins, combined with a glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces.
In the Garden
'Cosmic DNA' forms an upright, mounding clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter at maturity. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage and gold margins hold their color most reliably. The large, heavily textured leaves provide strong contrast when paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or as part of a mixed border in typical hosta-growing zones.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Cosmic DNA' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly.
