Overview
Registered in 2008, 'Cosmic Baby' is a large hosta cultivar originating from a cross between *Hosta* 'Cosmic Hippie' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Cosmic Sister' (pollen parent). It is visually distinguished by its nearly round, deeply corrugated leaves with green centers, gold margins, and occasional green-to-yellow streaking, combined with slightly rippled leaf margins.
In the Garden
'Cosmic Baby' performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas, and reaches a mature spread of 42 inches (106.7 cm) with a height of 28 inches (71.1 cm). Its large, textured leaves make it suitable as a specimen plant or for use in mixed shade borders, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The scapes rise 32 to 40 inches (81.3 to 101.6 cm) above the foliage, bearing lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. This cultivar exhibits typical hosta resistance to deer, though slug control may be necessary in damp conditions to protect the heavily corrugated foliage.
