Overview
Registered in 2010, 'Cool Waters' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar derived from a cross between *Hosta* 'Tokudama Aurenebulosa' and *Hosta* 'Lily Pad'. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, broadly ovate leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, deeply corrugated texture, and lightly wavy margins, combined with purple flowers on blue-green scapes.
In the Garden
'Cool Waters' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains its color and the glaucous bloom remains intact. The thick, corrugated leaves provide textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*; its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or woodland garden settings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves offer some resistance to slugs, though monitoring may still be necessary in damp conditions.
