Overview

Registered in 1987 by R. Benedict, *Hosta* 'Connie' originated as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sunlight' crossed with a sport of *Hosta* 'Frances Williams'. This large cultivar is visually distinctive for its green leaves with light gold margins, a combination inherited from its parentage.

In the Garden

'Hosta' Connie reaches a mature diameter of 30 inches (76.2 cm) and a height of 20 inches (50.8 cm), placing it in the large size class. Its leaves are 12 inches (30.5 cm) long and 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide, with 11 to 12 vein pairs and light green to light gold margins. The scape height is recorded as 20 inches (50.8 cm). This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. 'Connie' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, typical for hostas, so monitor and manage accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
