Overview
Registered in 2002 by Japanese breeder H. Sugita, this medium-sized cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta longipes* and *H. pycnophylla*. It is visually distinctive for its ovate, dull green leaves with medium gold to medium green heavily rippled margins, combined with rosy red petioles that are spotted on the underside.
In the Garden
'Hosta' Condor' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching approximately 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its muted leaf tones. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or woodland garden settings.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. This cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, as are most hostas, and may benefit from protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
