Overview

Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Concord' is a small hybrid derived from *H. sieboldii* 'Naugoku'. It is visually distinctive for its intensely shiny, blue-green leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides, forming a compact, dense mound.

In the Garden

'Concord' is suitable for partial to full shade, typical of most hostas. At maturity, it forms a mound approximately 32 inches (81 cm) in diameter and 12 inches (30 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. Its small size and tidy habit make it an excellent choice for rock gardens, woodland edges, or the front of borders; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. It is also well-suited for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. While generally low-maintenance, monitor for slugs and snails, which may damage the foliage; deer browsing is also possible in some areas.
