Overview
Registered in 2008, 'Colorful Sister' is a large hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Pinstripe Sister' and a seedling of *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict'. It is visually distinctive for its broadly ovate, lightly cupped leaves that are green with streaked yellow to gold flat margins, combined with a very shiny upper surface and slightly shiny underside.
In the Garden
'Colorful Sister' forms a substantial clump reaching 26 inches (66.0 cm) in height and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or focal point in partial to full shade. Its large, glossy leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The green scapes rise 36 to 42 inches (91.4 to 106.7 cm) above the foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. This cultivar is typical of hostas in requiring protection from slugs and deer, which may damage the broad leaves.
