Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'September Sun' registered in 2015, 'Colesburg Sonny Boy' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its yellow leaf centers framed by unusually wide, dark green margins. The broadly ovate, moderately corrugated leaves measure 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) long by 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, with 10 vein pairs and a slightly shiny upper surface.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 37 inches (94 cm) in diameter and 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its bold foliage contrasts well with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*, and the light green scapes, rising 22 to 28 inches (55.9 to 71.1 cm), bear pale lavender flowers in midsummer. Not recommended for container cultivation due to its medium size.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage; monitor regularly and control as needed. Deer resistance is typical for the genus.
