Overview
Registered in 2004 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Tokudama', 'Colesburg Blue' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its heavily cupped, corrugated, and puckered blue-green leaves. The foliage carries a glaucous bloom on the upper surface, with broadly ovate, cordate-based leaves that have slightly rippled margins and a dull underside.
In the Garden
'Colesburg Blue' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching approximately 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a medium-fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its compact size makes it suitable for rock gardens, woodland borders, or the front of shaded beds. The blue-green foliage pairs well with golden or chartreuse-leaved plants such as *Hakonechloa macra* 'Aureola' or *Heuchera* 'Lime Marmalade'.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed with appropriate controls.
