Year registered2010
Section classIV-7

Overview

Registered in 2010, this small hosta cultivar originated from an open-pollinated cross with *Hosta* 'Sea Prize' as the pod parent and an unknown pollen parent. Its most distinctive feature is the consistent streaking present on every leaf, where medium green laminae are marked with irregular streaks of green and yellow, framed by gold margins that exhibit slight rippling.

In the Garden

Reaching a mature size of approximately 7 inches (17.8 cm) in height and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter, 'Coach Terry Paustian' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for small hostas, and pairs well with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or small sedges. The slightly shiny, elliptic leaves with tapered bases, moderate twisting, and moderate waviness add textural interest throughout the growing season.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas, particularly in shaded garden settings within typical hosta-growing zones.
