Overview

Registered in 2012 from unknown parentage, 'Coach Millboy Miller' is a small hosta distinguished by its green leaves with white margins that display streaked yellow, white, and green variegation along slightly rippled edges. The lance-shaped leaves, measuring 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 4.25 inches (10.8 cm) wide, feature 7 to 8 vein pairs, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a dull underside with a tapered base and light cupping.

In the Garden

This mound-forming cultivar reaches 14 inches (35.6 cm) in both height and diameter, with a moderate growth rate, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials of similar scale. The green scapes, rising 18 to 20 inches (45.7 to 50.8 cm) tall, bear lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, avoiding waterlogged soil, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing, so protective measures may be warranted in areas where these pests are prevalent.
