Hosta ‘Coach Jim Fox’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered2009
Section classIV-7

Overview

Registered in 2009, this small hosta cultivar originated from *Hosta* 'Galaxy' as the pod parent with an unknown pollen parent. 'Coach Jim Fox' is visually distinctive for its dark green leaves with creamy white, slightly rippled margins and a light cupping of the broadly ovate leaf blade.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of approximately 20.5 inches (52.1 cm) and height of 11 inches (27.9 cm), this mound-forming plant suits the front of a border, rock garden, or container. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for the genus, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small shade perennials. Its small size and moderate growth rate make it appropriate for trough gardens or small-space plantings.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, applying water at soil level to avoid leaf moisture that encourages fungal diseases. Fertilize in early spring as shoots emerge, and monitor for slug damage, particularly on the dull leaf undersides. Deer resistance is typical for the genus.
