Overview
Registered in 2007, *Hosta* 'Clouded Skies' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from the pod parent *H.* 'Fragrant Blue' and the pollen parent (*H.* 'Korean Snow' × *H.* 'Maekawa'). It is visually distinguished by its nearly round, medium blue-green leaves with a pronounced silver sheen and glaucous bloom on both surfaces, creating a muted, clouded appearance.
In the Garden
'Clouded Skies' forms a mound-like clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its broad, lightly cupped leaves with flat margins pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The dark green scapes, rising 32 to 36 inches (81.3 to 91.4 cm), carry flowers that attract pollinators.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Clouded Skies' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
