Overview
Registered in 2006 by D. Beilstein and M. Zilis, *Hosta* 'Cloudburst' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Glory' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its deeply cupped, twisted, and heavily corrugated blue-green leaves, which exhibit a glaucous bloom on both surfaces early in the season, and for its notably unruly, sprawling mound habit.
In the Garden
'Cloudburst' forms a mound approximately 33 inches (84 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. Its thick, textured leaves and blue-green coloration make it suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. The plant pairs well with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*, which contrast with its bold, corrugated foliage. Its medium size and unruly form are less suited to small containers but work effectively as a specimen or in mixed shade borders.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as growth emerges; minimal slug and deer resistance is typical for blue-green hostas, so monitoring may be required.
