Overview
Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Cloud Sweeper' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Tall Boy' as its pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its upright, slow-growing habit, medium green leaves with slightly rippled margins and slight gloss on the upper surface, and notably tall flower scapes reaching 70 to 72 inches (177.8–182.9 cm) in height.
In the Garden
'Cloud Sweeper' forms a clump 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 38 inches (96.5 cm) tall, with lance-shaped leaves 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) long and 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, bearing 9 to 11 pairs of veins. Its upright habit and tall scapes make it suitable for mid-border or as a vertical accent in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones. Companion plants include ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size does not suit container culture.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. 'Cloud Sweeper' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, requiring standard protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
