Overview
Registered in 2000 as a sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Clifford's Forest Fire' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, yellow, slightly rippled margins. The leaf blade measures 10 inches (25.4 cm) in length and 8 inches (20.3 cm) in width, with a cordate base and a slightly shiny upper surface; the yellow margin is approximately 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature size of 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, and is well-suited for woodland borders, shade gardens, or as a specimen plant. Its large size and bold coloration make it an effective companion for ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; it is not recommended for container cultivation due to its mature dimensions.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through standard control methods in typical hosta-growing zones.
