Overview
Registered in 2002, *Hosta* 'Chutzpah' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Anglo Saxon' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its medium green leaves with gold margins, unstable yellow streaking, and moderately corrugated, puckered texture.
In the Garden
'Chutzpah' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its small size makes it well suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants that appreciate similar conditions include ferns, heucheras, and small woodland perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through routine monitoring.
