Overview
Registered in 2000, 'Christmas Tree Gala' is a small sport of an unnamed parent, distinguished by its medium green leaves with creamy white margins and slightly rippled edges. The foliage is dull on both surfaces, with cordate leaf bases and nine pairs of veins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a moderate-growing mound reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 23 inches (58.4 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or woodland groundcovers. Its compact size also makes it appropriate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry spells. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Christmas Tree Gala' may be browsed by deer and is susceptible to slug damage; monitor and manage as needed.
