Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Christmas Tree' registered in 2009 by K. Walek of the American Hosta Society, 'Christmas Gold' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with wide, golden yellow margins. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, deeply corrugated and cupped, with a dull upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath.
In the Garden
'Christmas Gold' reaches a mature spread of approximately 56 inches (142 cm) and a height of 23 inches (58 cm), with scapes rising 30 to 36 inches (76 to 91 cm). It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold margins remain bright without scorching. Its substantial size and slow growth rate make it suitable as a specimen or accent in mixed shade borders, paired with ferns or other broad-leaved perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection in damp conditions.
