Overview
Registered in 2000, this small hosta cultivar is a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Christmas Tree'. It forms a dense, mounding clump 10 inches (25.4 cm) high and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter, with dark green leaves that have flat margins and a slightly shiny surface on both sides. The leaves are cordate at the base, measuring 4 inches (10.2 cm) in both length and width, with six vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Christmas Cup' is suitable for partial to full shade, typical of most hostas. Its moderate growth rate and compact size make it appropriate for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging along pathways. It pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or epimediums, and is well-suited for container cultivation given its small stature.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
