Overview

Registered in 2009 by M. Zilis, *Hosta* ‘Choko Nishiki’ is a large sport distinguished by its unusual color pattern: golden yellow leaf centers with medium green margins, emerging two to three weeks later than typical hosta forms. The green margin often streaks into the yellow center, and the leaves are ovate with cordate bases, dull on the upper surface and slightly shiny beneath.

In the Garden

‘Choko Nishiki’ forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or for mid-border placement in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended for this cultivar.
