Overview
Registered in 2003 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Chodai Ginba' is a large, upright variegated cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its ovate, dark green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a very shiny upper surface, and ten prominent vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Chodai Ginba' reaches a mature diameter of 27 inches (68.6 cm) and a height of 11 inches (27.9 cm), with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size and heavy scape make it a strong specimen plant for borders or woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. The thick leaf texture provides moderate resistance to slugs, though deer may browse the foliage.
