Overview
Registered in 1979 by M. Eisel, *Hosta* 'Chiquita' is a giant-sized cultivar of unknown parentage, notable for its large green leaves edged with bright light yellow margins. The foliage reaches 19 inches (48.3 cm) in length and 9 inches (22.9 cm) in width, with 13 pairs of veins, forming a substantial mound.
In the Garden
'Chiquita' forms a clump 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height, with scapes rising to 28 inches (71.1 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its large size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or in the back of a shaded border. Companion plants might include ferns or shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its bold foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the leaves; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
