Overview

Registered in 2012 by R. Solberg, this medium-sized cultivar is a seedling crossed with *Hosta* 'One Man's Treasure'. 'Cherry Flip' is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins and deeply veined, smooth-textured foliage, combined with maroon red petioles that are exposed by the plant's semi-upright, upright habit.

In the Garden

'Cherry Flip' reaches a mature diameter of 29 inches (73.7 cm) and a height of 16 inches (40.6 cm), making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-leaved hostas. Its moderate growth rate and upright form allow it to pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials that complement its blue-green foliage and red petioles. It is not recommended for container cultivation due to its medium size.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. 'Cherry Flip' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, as are most hostas, and may require protective measures in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
