Overview

Registered in 1976 by P. Aden, this large hosta cultivar results from a cross between *H. 'Green Wedge'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Green Piecrust'* (pollen parent). It is visually distinguished by its green leaves with chartreuse margins, a color combination that gives the plant its name.

In the Garden

'Hosta Chartreuse Wedge' forms a substantial clump reaching approximately 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height, making it suitable as a specimen or for the middle to back of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large, broadly ovate leaves, each up to 16 inches (40.6 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide with 12 vein pairs, provide strong textural contrast.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
