Overview

Registered in 2012 by O. Petryszyn and R. & B. Schroeder, 'Champaign Taste' is a large hosta notable for its vivid lime-green leaves with pure white margins and a white flame tip. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, moderately cupped, and intensely corrugated, often displaying some darker green interior variegation.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its large, textured leaves make it a suitable specimen for mid-border or woodland garden positions. The green scapes rise 13 to 14 inches (33.0 to 35.6 cm) above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Champaign Taste' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate protective measures are recommended in typical hosta-growing zones.
