Overview

Registered in 1983 by S. Moldovan, this giant variegated cultivar derives from a hybrid of *Hosta sieboldiana*. It is visually distinctive for its large, heavily textured leaves with light green margins and a broad, dark green center, forming a substantial mound.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 70 inches (177.8 cm) and height of 34 inches (86.4 cm), 'Century One' requires ample space and performs best in partial to full shade. Its massive size makes it suitable as a specimen or focal point in shaded borders and woodland gardens, where it pairs well with ferns and other shade-tolerant perennials. It is not suited for container cultivation due to its giant dimensions.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and may benefit from protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
