Overview

Registered in 2008, *Hosta* 'Celtic Dancer' is a small-sized variegated cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Grandslam' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Party Favor' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive features are the heavily rippled, piecrust-like leaf margins combined with a pronounced upright habit, moderate twisting, folding, and deep waviness across the leaf blade.

In the Garden

Reaching approximately 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter, this cultivar forms a compact, upright clump suitable for the front of a shaded border or rock garden. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with other small hostas or shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns and heucheras. Its small stature and erect habit also make it a candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas, though the heavily textured, substantial leaves may offer slightly more resistance than thin-leaved cultivars.
