Overview
Registered in 2007, 'Cathedral of Learning' is a large, upright hosta cultivar of seedling parentage. It is visually distinctive for its lance-shaped, medium green leaves with slightly rippled margins, light twisting and folding, and curled leaf tips.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature size of 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height and 51 inches (129.5 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It tolerates direct sun and winter road salt, making it suitable for exposed sites where many hostas would decline. Its large size suits it for use as a specimen or in the middle to back of a mixed border, paired with ferns or shade-tolerant perennials in typical hosta-growing zones.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. The leaves show resistance to disease and insects, though standard slug management may still be beneficial in damp conditions.
