Overview

Registered in 1985 by W. Wagner, ‘Cassandra’ is a miniature hosta distinguished by its small, green leaves with narrow gold margins. The plant forms a compact mound reaching 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with individual leaves measuring 3 inches (7.6 cm) long and 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide, bearing three vein pairs and yellow marginal coloration.

In the Garden

‘Cassandra’ performs best in partial to full shade, where its gold margins remain most vivid. At maturity, this miniature cultivar forms a tidy, low clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. Its small stature makes it an excellent candidate for container culture, and it pairs well with other diminutive perennials such as miniature ferns, *Heuchera* cultivars, or small sedges.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, ‘Cassandra’ is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
