Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, this large sport of *Hosta* 'Golden Nugget' is distinguished by its nearly round, heavily corrugated leaves with golden yellow centers and wide, dark green margins. The leaf blades measure 9 inches long by 8 inches wide, bearing 17 pairs of veins, with margins 0.75 to 1 inch wide that are slightly rippled; both surfaces are dull.
In the Garden
'Carriage Wheels' forms a semi-upright to mounding clump reaching 15 inches in height and 35 inches in diameter (approximately 38 by 89 cm). It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the gold center color remains brightest without scorching. The large, textured leaves provide strong contrast when paired with fine-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*; the plant's substantial size also suits it as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the broad, tender foliage.
