Overview

Registered in 1999, 'Carolina Sunshine' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar of unknown breeder, distinguished by its medium green leaves with narrow golden yellow margins. The leaf blade measures 9 inches (22.9 cm) in length and 5 inches (12.7 cm) in width, with a margin width of 0.5 inches (1.3 cm). The leaf surface is slightly shiny on the upper side. Its pollen parent is *Hosta tibae*.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like habit reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. The gold-margined foliage provides contrast when paired with green-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its medium size makes it appropriate for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
