Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'August Moon' registered in 1997, 'Carolina Moon' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its variegated foliage: medium green leaves with a broad, light green, slightly rippled margin approximately 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide. The leaf surface is slightly shiny above and dull beneath, with a cordate base and 10 to 12 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Carolina Moon' forms a mound-like clump 10 inches (25.4 cm) tall and 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. The medium size allows pairing with ferns, astilbes, or smaller shade perennials; it is not suited for containers due to its mature spread.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and use controls as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
