Overview
Registered in 2016, 'Carol Marie' is a small, mound-forming hosta cultivar derived from *Hosta sieboldiana* as the pod parent, with unknown pollen parentage. It is visually distinguished by its blue-green leaves with greenish-yellow flat margins, a glaucous bloom on the undersides, and a compact, slow-growing habit.
In the Garden
'Carol Marie' reaches a mature diameter of approximately 7 inches (17.8 cm) and a height of 3 inches (7.6 cm), forming a low, dense mound. It is suited for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its small stature makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants may include small ferns, *Heuchera*, or miniature sedges. Its compact size also renders it well-suited for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While 'Carol Marie' exhibits a hardy, robust appearance, it may still be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
