Overview
Registered in 2009 as an open-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Rosedale Black Hole', 'Capricorn' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green, nearly round leaves with heavy corrugation, cupping, and twisting. The foliage carries a dull glaucous bloom on the upper surface and is flat-margined, with 14 to 15 pairs of veins per leaf.
In the Garden
'Capricorn' reaches approximately 33 inches (83.8 cm) in diameter and 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height, with an upright, somewhat unruly growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is well suited to border plantings or as a specimen in woodland gardens. Its heavy substance and large size make it a substantial presence in the mid-border, where it can be paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves offer good resistance to slugs, but standard deer deterrents may be necessary in areas with heavy deer pressure.
