Overview
Registered in 2002 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Chivalry', 'Canterbury Tales' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its dark blue-green leaves with unstable streaks of creamy white along slightly rippled margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 6 inches (15.2 cm) long and 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, bear 6 to 7 vein pairs and exhibit a slight shine on both surfaces.
In the Garden
This mound-forming hosta reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging along pathways. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf color remains truest, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small woodland perennials. Its compact size also makes it an appropriate choice for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Canterbury Tales' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
