Year registered2003
Section classIV-1

Overview

Registered in 2003, 'Candy Dish' is a small, mound-forming hosta of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Urajiro Hachijo' as its pod parent. Its most distinctive feature is the dark green, heavily rippled leaf margin that contrasts with a lighter leaf center, combined with a very shiny upper surface.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature mound approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall and 10 inches (25.4 cm) wide, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Companion plants might include small ferns or shade-tolerant groundcovers.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Candy Dish' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are common.
