Overview

Registered in 1987 by W. & E. Lachman, this small hosta arose from a hybrid of unknown parentage crossed with *Hosta* 'White Christmas'. It is distinguished by narrow, lanceolate leaves with pure white to creamy yellow margins that contrast sharply against a kelly green center, and by its compact, low-growing habit.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Calypso' reaches a mature diameter of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and a height of 7 inches (17.8 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegation remains most stable. Companion plants include small ferns, tiarella, or miniature sedges that echo its scale.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and protect as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
