Overview

Registered in 2000, 'Cajun Sunrise' is a large hosta cultivar bred from the pod parent *H.* 'Sea Prize' and the pollen parent *H.* 'Maekawa'. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves that display a slight sheen on the upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath, with medium green streaking and slightly rippled margins.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 33 inches (83.8 cm) and a height of 19 inches (48.3 cm), with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for most hostas, and its large, cordate leaves make it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement. Companion plants that thrive in similar conditions include ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Cajun Sunrise' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
