Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Burgundy Bermudas' is a small, variegated cultivar with *Hosta rupifraga* as its pod parent and an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its ovate, light green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a very shiny upper surface, combined with reddish purple scapes and red petioles that extend a solid reddish coloration into the plant's lower structure.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms an upright clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and small woodland perennials that complement its glossy foliage and red stems.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as with most hosta cultivars.
