Overview
A sport of an unidentified parent, registered in 2005 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Buggy Wheels' is a small, slow-growing cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins. The foliage is notably cupped, twisted, folded, wavy, and corrugated, with a dull surface on both sides.
In the Garden
Mature plants form a mound 11 inches (27.9 cm) tall and 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) wide, making this cultivar suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or woodland groundcovers. Its compact size and slow growth rate recommend it for small garden spaces or troughs.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and take protective measures where these pests are prevalent.
