Overview

Registered in 2014 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Buckaroo' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its deeply corrugated, broadly ovate leaves with medium green flat margins and slightly shiny surfaces on both sides. The leaves are deeply cupped, lightly twisted, and deeply folded, forming a tight, slug-resistant clump with a thick substance.

In the Garden

'Buckaroo' reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate and a compact, mound-like habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it suitable for container cultivation, rock gardens, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, or small woodland perennials that complement its corrugated foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though standard slug management practices are advisable in damp conditions.
