Overview
Registered in 1998, this small-sized variegated hosta originated as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance'. Its leaves are medium green with flat margins, exhibiting a very shiny upper surface and slightly shiny underside, with rounded leaf bases.
In the Garden
'Hosta' Bubba forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its compact size. Its small stature makes it an effective companion for other shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or small woodland wildflowers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and take protective measures as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
