Overview

Registered in 2002 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Bryce' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar of unknown parentage, notable as one of the earliest hosta selections distributed by Chet Tompkins. Its leaves feature medium green margins with a slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside, lightly corrugated and ovate with a flat base and nine prominent vein pairs.

In the Garden

This mound-forming hosta reaches 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and spreads to 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for variegated cultivars, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact size makes it suitable for border fronts or small garden spaces.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
