Overview
Registered in 2015 by D. and J. Ward, 'Brutus Buckeye' is a giant variegated hosta of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its large, corrugated, broadly ovate leaves with medium green margins and a dull surface on both sides.
In the Garden
'Brutus Buckeye' forms a substantial mound 28 inches (71.1 cm) tall and 60 inches (152.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is best suited to partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its large, textured foliage. Its considerable size makes it appropriate as a specimen plant or for filling larger shaded areas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitoring and appropriate control measures are advisable in typical hosta-growing zones.
