Overview
Registered in 2002 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Brother Bunyan' is a giant variegated cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its large, ovate leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins, a waxy upper surface, and dull underside, forming an upright mound.
In the Garden
'Brother Bunyan' reaches a mature diameter of 39 inches (99.1 cm) and a height of 30 inches (76.2 cm), with scapes rising 28 to 31 inches (71.1 to 78.7 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, where its substantial leaves and good substance resist tattering. This cultivar pairs well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, astilbes, and heucheras, and its large size makes it unsuitable for containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
