Overview

Registered in 1991 by L. Fraim and P. Ruh, 'Brookwood Blue' is a large blue-green hosta derived from *Hosta sieboldiana*. Its most distinctive features are the heavily undulated leaf margins and the broad, rounded leaf shape, which together create a textured, substantial foliage presence.

In the Garden

'Brookwood Blue' forms a clump 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) tall, with leaves 10 inches (25.4 cm) long and 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green coloration holds best. The large size makes it suitable as a specimen or as part of a mixed shade border, paired with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials. It is not recommended for container culture due to its mature dimensions.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed.
